Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (CAVA) L3 (RQF)

The Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (RQF) is for practitioners who assess the demonstration of competence in a work environment using the following assessment methods: observation, examining work products, oral questioning and discussion, use of others (e.g. witnesses), learner statements and Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). It is also for practitioners who assess knowledge and/or skills in vocationally-related subject areas who use the following assessment methods: assessments in simulated environments, skills tests, oral and written questions, assignments, projects, case studies and RPL. This may take place in training workshops, classrooms or other learning environments.

In short, this qualification is for practitioners who may use ALL of the above listed assessment methods based upon sound assessment principles.

The L3 CAVA is intended for those who wish to gain an understanding of the principles and practices of assessment without any requirement to practice as assessors. It is a knowledge-only award. It has been designed: 

  • For individuals who are not in an assessor's role, or who have just started their journey as an assessor in the further education and skills sector / private sector

  • For individuals who are interested in knowing more about assessment or who need to know about assessment practice as part of their role

  • For individuals who want a short qualification to enable them to make career choices

  • For individuals who are not currently practicing e.g. a starting point for aspiring assessors or a professional development qualification for managers, HR or quality assurance personnel

  • For individuals who are carrying out assessments and quality assurance in most learning environments including FE, Adult Continuing Learning, Employers and Third Sector

  • For individuals who are carrying out quality assurance in all occupational sectors

  • For individuals working in accredited learning OR non accredited learning (where people may assess performance but do not assess for a qualification); the NQF and the RQF

  • For individuals who have already achieved some Education & Training or Learning & Development units that can be carried forward into this qualification

Award in Education & Training (AET) L3 (RQF)

The course has been designed to provide an introduction to teaching for individuals who would like to work or are currently working within FE Colleges, Independent Training Providers and/or Local Authorities. It is designed:

  • For individuals who work, or want to work as teachers/trainers in the further education and skills sector

  • For individuals who are not in a teaching/training role, or who have just started a teaching/training role

  • For individuals who want a short qualification to enable them to make career choices

  • For individuals who have already achieved some Learning and Development units that can be carried forward into this qualification

  • For individuals currently working as assessors, who wish to achieve a qualification that provides an introduction to teaching

  • For individuals currently teaching and training, including those new to the profession – although the qualification does not require teaching practice, opportunities may be made available to observe and provide feedback on a trainee teacher’s practice

  • For individuals who have completed some introduction to training qualifications

  • Prerequisites/Before the course
  • You must be a minimum of 19 years old

  • Good reading & writing skills in English

  • A lot of ‘Patience’ (This is an intensive course!)

  • Knowledge of the subject you wish to teach/deliver

  • Filled up ‘Application Form’

  • A photographic proof of identification [Any 1 of the following]

  • Valid Passport with VISA (any nationality)

  • Signed UK Photo Card Driving Licence

  • Valid Warrant Card issued by HM Forces or Police

  • Other photographic ID card, e.g. Employee ID Card (must be current employer), Student ID Card, Travel card, etc.

Certificate in Education & Training (CET) L4 (RQF)

The Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training is a first stage teaching qualification that will give candidates a fundamental understanding of the roles and responsibilities of a teacher/trainer in relation to legislation, equality, diversity, inclusivity and meeting the needs of learners. It includes the use of initial and diagnostic assessments and requires candidates to plan and deliver inclusive teaching and learning, carry out assessments of and for learning and use resources effectively.

Who should do this course?

The course has been designed to provide an introduction to teaching for individuals who would like to work or are currently working within FE Colleges, Independent Training Providers and/or Local Authorities. It is designed:

  • For individuals who work or who want to work as teachers/trainers in the further education and skills sector

  • For individuals who have just started a teaching/training role

  • For teachers/trainers who are seeking career progression in their area of work

  • For individuals who work with learners on a one-to-one basis

  • For individuals who teach in industry

  • For individuals who have already achieved some Learning and Development units that can be carried forward into this qualification

  • For individuals currently working as assessors, who wish to achieve a teaching qualification

  • For individuals who have completed the Level 3 Award in Education and Training (L3 AET), or Award in Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS) and wish to progress

  • For individuals who have completed the Trainer skills or introduction to training qualifications

Prerequisites/Before the course
  • You must be a minimum of 19 years old

  • You must be in-service or delivering sessions voluntarily - you would be observed in your workplace setting

  • Good reading & writing skills in English

  • Good online research skills

  • A lot of ‘Patience’ (This is an intensive course!)

  • You should be qualified/ experienced in the subject you intend to teach/deliver

  • Access to 30 teaching practice hours - a teaching hours log would be required (a letter from the organisation)

  • At least a Level 2 qualification in English, Mathematics & ICT - You should agree to provide the necessary qualifications by the end of the qualification if you don't have them at the beginning

  • Filled up ‘Application Form’

  • A photographic proof of identification [Any 1 of the following]

    • Valid Passport with VISA (any nationality)

    • Signed UK Photo Card Driving Licence

    • Valid Warrant Card issued by HM Forces or Police

L4 AWARD IN THE INTERNAL QUALITY ASSURANCE OF ASSESSMENT PROCESSES AND PRACTICE

 The courses are ideal for busy people who need to be qualified and productive, fast.  We are very hard to beat in terms of quality and flexibility of training and we ensure you get qualified quickly and without fuss.

The Level 4 IQA Award is the recognised qualification for IQAs working in any occupation, in both the public and private sector.  The qualification covers the skills, knowledge and understanding you need if you are practising (or want to practice) as an Internal Quality Assurer.

Entry Requirements

You must be working with two assessors from your organisation and be a minimum of 19 years old, along with access to a reliable internet connection and laptop/PC/tablet using up to date Windows, Apple or Android operating systems. It is recommended that learners hold either a Level 3 Award in Assessing Competence in the Work Environment or a Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement. However, these qualifications are not necessary for entering the course.

Course Specification

Learners will develop the skills to sample the work of your assessors and and monitor a team of IQAs. . The Level 4 Certificate in Leading Internal Quality Assurance is broken down into three units:

  • Understanding the principles and practices of internally assuring the quality of assessment

  • Internally assure the quality of assessment

  • Plan, allocate and monitor work in own area of responsibility

(If a learner has already achieved any of the above units prior to enrolling on to the Level 4 Certificate In Leading Internal Quality Assurance in their previous learning, they will not have to repeat the units and the credits will be carried over) 

 

How is this course assessed? 

  • Unit 1 - This is a theoretical unit which covers the principles and practices of internally assuring the quality of assessment and has internally set and marked assessments.

  • Unit 2 - This unit requires you to submit a portfolio of evidence from your role in your workplace, which includes monitoring the quality assurance of two assessors.

  • Unit 3 - This unit requires you to submit a portfolio of evidence gathered from leading quality assurance in your own workplace.
